Accessibility

Accessibility statement

Bahçeşehir University is committed to designing the BAU Artificial Intelligence Opportunities Platform to deliver a digital experience that is perceivable, operable, understandable and robust for everyone, including people with disabilities.

Our commitment

We treat accessibility not as a one-off compliance check but as a design principle that we continuously improve. When developing new content and features, we aim to consider accessibility from the very outset of the design process.

Conformance target

We aim to bring our platform into conformance with the internationally recognised WCAG 2.1 AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) level. In pursuit of this goal, we carry out regular reviews and address identified shortcomings on a prioritised basis.

Measures we take

The main approaches we apply for an accessible experience:

  • Semantic HTML structure, a correct heading hierarchy and defined page regions (landmarks)
  • Full keyboard navigation and visible focus indicators
  • A "Skip to content" link at the top of the page that jumps straight to the main content
  • Sufficient colour contrast for text and interface elements
  • Alternative text for images and the hiding of purely decorative elements from screen readers
  • A responsive, scalable design that adapts to all screen sizes
  • Animations that respect the reduced-motion preference (prefers-reduced-motion)
  • Descriptive labels for links and buttons, with links that open in a new tab clearly indicated

Compatibility

The platform is built to work with the latest versions of current browsers and with common assistive technologies (screen readers, keyboard navigation, browser zoom). For the best experience, we recommend keeping your browser up to date.

Known limitations

Despite our ongoing improvement efforts, some content may have accessibility limitations. In particular, embedded content from third-party services, external sites we link to and document attachments (PDFs and the like) may not always be under our control. When we identify such cases, we work to improve them.

Feedback and contact

If you encounter an accessibility barrier on the platform or have a suggestion, please get in touch; we will review your feedback as soon as possible. Please share the page where the issue occurred, the device/browser you are using and, if applicable, details of any assistive technology.

For your accessibility feedback: ai@bau.edu.tr. Your request may also include a need for an accessible alternative format.
