Evaluate these questions before you use it
Reviewing the questions below before you use a generative AI tool helps you protect data, privacy and intellectual property.
1. What information am I entering into the tool? Could it include personal data?
In line with university policies and rules, do not share sensitive or confidential information about the institution or individuals. Examples of information that should never be entered: student information; staff information; information the university has committed to keeping confidential (contracts, project applications, notices to research participants); confidential or non-public information belonging to the university. Make sure that the information you enter into a tool is public and does not contain personal data covered by KVKK.
2. Am I using this for personal purposes or for BAU work/academic purposes?
By submitting information to a tool, you may lose the right to control who can use that content in the future. This is especially problematic when you do not own the intellectual property involved.
3. Are you asking students to use this tool?
While generative AI offers solutions to today's educational challenges, the line between AI-generated and human-created content is becoming increasingly blurred. You can draw on the training resources BAU offers for classroom use and request support.
4. Who owns the data, and is it clear?
Consider whether the intellectual and industrial property rights to the materials should belong to you or to the university. AI outputs that do not include sufficient human contribution may not qualify for intellectual property protection.
5. Are the confidentiality, ethics, risk and security policies clear?
Prefer tools that make these policies easily accessible.
