AI Steering Committee

At BAU, AI is a field that is deliberated collectively and stewarded with responsibility. The AI Steering Committee is the governance structure that brings the university's approach to AI together within a human-centered, ethical and trustworthy framework, enabling different units to converge on a shared vision.

How it works: The Committee operates within the policy framework approved by the Senate; it is supported by the permanent secretariat of the AI Competence Unit and comes to life through working groups and project teams.

Our areas of focus

• Keeping pace with the rapidly changing world of AI
• Developing strategy for this fast-moving technology to ensure ethical, safe and responsible use (human oversight, transparency, KVKK, academic integrity)
• Thinking and working toward AI literacy with an ‘AI for everyone’ understanding; inviting and listening to the BAU AI community
• Managing the risk of uniformity that AI may create among its beneficiaries while assessing the opportunities it opens; seeking approaches that spark and support human originality and creativity
• Collaboration and continuous improvement with internal and external stakeholders

We are open to our stakeholders: The Committee is open to the views and suggestions of students, alumni, academic and administrative units, as well as the public sector, private sector, civil society and field experts. These contributions support the growth of quality service and trustworthy knowledge together with society.

Secretariat: The Committee's permanent secretariat is carried out by the AI Competence Unit.
